Can Bordoy and the Joves Navegants Foundation: A partnership for the Mediterranean
At Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden in Mallorca, for instance, the surrounding area is much more than just a backdrop. The island's landscape, culture, and above all the Mediterranean Sea, are all part of its identity, inspiring a way of life that is grounded in respect, authenticity, and a connection to the local environment.
Guided by these values, the five-star luxury hotel has formed a partnership with the Joves Navegants Foundation. This Mallorcan foundation has over 30 years' experience and has recently renewed its activities. It demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental education, the conservation of the Mediterranean and social inclusion across Mallorca.
Working together to protect our surroundings
Can Bordoy's partnership with Fundació Joves Navegants is based on a shared vision: to bring people closer to the Mediterranean and encourage a deeper, more mindful connection with nature.
One of the foundation's flagship projects is 'Love the Mediterranean', an initiative that combines environmental awareness with scientific education on board the 22-metre training sailing vessel Galaxie, which has been converted to run on electricity.
As one of Mallorca's pioneering electric sailing projects, the Galaxie has become a floating classroom, enabling participants to connect with the sea while learning about sustainability, biodiversity and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
The social dimension of the project is equally important. Through collaborations with organisations such as Amadip Esment, the foundation provides educational experiences for children and young people who would otherwise have limited opportunities to access the sea and participate in maritime activities.
These initiatives promote learning, participation, and inclusion, thereby strengthening the connection between people and the Mediterranean.
The first step: The Club de Mar Classic Regatta
The first milestone of this partnership was Can Bordoy sponsoring Galaxie's participation in the 31^(st) Club de Mar Classic Regatta, which took place from 11 to 15 August.
This event was chosen for its alignment with our values. The sea has always been one of Mallorca's defining features, and the regatta provided an opportunity to promote a project that combines maritime heritage, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
Supporting initiatives such as the Joves Navegants Foundation is another way for Can Bordoy to demonstrate its commitment to preserving Mallorca as both a community and an ecosystem.
And this is only the beginning. The partnership is intended to lay the groundwork for future initiatives focused on environmental education, Mediterranean conservation and social inclusion.
Protecting the Mediterranean means protecting Mallorca
The island's history, landscape and identity are inextricably linked to this body of water. However, the Mediterranean is also a form of natural heritage that requires understanding, respect and protection. At Can Bordoy, we support initiatives that connect people with the sea, as we believe this fosters greater environmental awareness. Ultimately, protecting the Mediterranean is a way of protecting Mallorca itself.
Every project that promotes education, conservation, and responsible interaction with the sea helps to ensure that this shared natural treasure is safeguarded for future generations.
As a luxury hotel with strong local ties in Palma, Can Bordoy is proud to support initiatives that have a positive environmental and social impact.
